PlantMatchup

About

I’m Hazel Brooks, and I own and write PlantMatchup.com.

I have kept (and lost) more houseplants than I like to admit. The losses taught me more than the wins: a plant dies for a small, boring reason, usually too much water or too little light, and the care tags in the shop rarely say so plainly. This site is the guide I wish I had when I started.

What you will find here

A growing library of houseplants, each with a simple, easy-to-follow care guide, honest downsides, and a clear note on whether it is safe around cats and dogs. Lists such as the best plants for low light, for a bathroom, or for a kitchen. And short quizzes that match you with a plant that fits your home and habits.

How I research and write

Every plant page is checked against trusted sources such as the ASPCA, university extension services and botanic gardens, and the sources are listed at the bottom of the page. I give ranges instead of fake precision, because care changes with your light, your pot and your home. Read more on how we pick and check plants.

What this site is not

I’m not a botanist, vet or doctor. If a pet eats a plant and seems unwell, call your vet or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center. See the disclaimer.
